Manual starts chapter of the National English Honor Society

At the end of the 2015-2016 school year, Ms. Williams (English) announced that Manual would be organizing its own branch of the National English Honor Society (NEHS). NEHS is an organization which encourages people gifted in English to share their talent through service, networking, and a community of like-minded individuals.

In order to join the club, one must submit a writing sample and fill out an application. Once one is accepted into NEHS, they must maintain a 3.75 or better GPA and complete the required number of service hours.

According to Williams, NEHS has long term goals of facilitating reading and writing workshops, holding writing contests, and creating a writing center where NEHS members can tutor other children in the community.

“I’m excited for the opportunity not just to do community service, but to do it with a literary theme,” said Rebecca Goldberg (12, HSU), “I already do English tutoring for middle schoolers and volunteer with Young Poets of Louisville so this will allow me to expand on that service even more.”or

The club will be electing student officers in order to decide what direction the club is headed in, and meetings will be held once a month after school.
