Manual rallies from 8-0 to defeat J’town

On Thursday, April 17, the DuPont Manual Baseball team hosted Jeffersontown High School (Jtown) at Derby City field for a regular season game. The game ended in an exciting fashion as Manual came out with a one point win.

The game got off to a slow start for the rams. Manual made a total of 5 errors in just the first three innings. At the end of the 3rd inning, Manual was down 4-0 to Jtown. Coach Timbario gave the rams a speech at the end of the inning telling them to keep their heads and that the game isn’t over yet.

After two more innings, the rams still hadn’t made any adjustments. It was the bottom of the 5th inning and they were down 8-0.

“We were playing pretty poorly up until the 5th innings. We just made way too many errors and were careless when it came to base running,” said Raleigh Dixon (12), “but we quickly turned that around in the 6th inning.”

Manual had started their comeback off with a triple hit by Sam Coryell. They were quickly gaining momentum with another triple and a couple batted in runs. At the bottom of the 9th inning, the game was tied at 8-8. Turahn Gordon (12) was on third base and Jarrett Harness (11) was up to bat. Jarrett hit a groundball to second which would open up the opportunity for Gordon to run home for the winning run.
