Baseball team prepares for beginning of season

With the season quickly approaching, the baseball team has been practicing vigorously since mid-February, working on all aspects of the game and making lineup changes in preparation for their season opener on March 23rd against DeSales High School.

The team has had 2 scrimmages against Butler High School and Bullitt East to prepare themselves for game-like conditions. In addition, the team has practiced position-specific drills,  and has spent hours at batting practice.

Because of an injury to starting shortstop Stephen Surrell (12), the team is looking to Andrew Olson (10) to provide strength at that position. Surrell is expected to return after spring break.

“He played a few varsity games last year and knows what it feels like,” said first baseman Trey Litsey (12), who feels that Olson is prepared for the starting position.

In addition to Surrell, the team is looking forward to the return of pitcher Patrick Allen (11), who is currently recovering from arm surgery.

“He’s in a lot of pain,” said third-baseman and outfielder Logan Gilbert (11). “Hopefully we can get him back to 100% before too long.”

After the opener against DeSales High School on March 23rd, the team plays Madison Central on the 25th.
